Program Details
Dancers in the Leinster Program meet two times a week to encourage skill development and retention. Classes are 75 minutes in length as dance complexity begins to increase. Students at this level are usually graduates of the Connacht program and enrollment is open year round.
Dancers are now able to dance independently from their teacher and will continue to master their hard shoe dances. Complexity of dance material continues to progress and students are introduced to the traditional set and the single jig. Students often choose to compete and participate in grade exams. Grade exams will be held once or twice a year and all students will receive a certificate of achievement from an out of town adjudicator. Note that grade exam fees are billed separately from tuition. Students are also encouraged to learn how to practice at home, and are provided with digital media resources and tracking sheets to help them hone this skill. Dancers learn how to count to eight as well as the names for their dances in the Irish language.
Uniform fees cover two school T-Shirts, a school journal, and three pairs of dance socks. Journals will be used to write out dance corrections, record home practice and to make other notes. Students are required to bring their journals to each class.
Class attire includes a school or Irish dance-themed shirt, black, blue or grey shorts or skort and white or black dance socks. Students must be fit with appropriate footwear including both soft and hard shoes to participate in class. Students may attend a shoe fitting day at the school, or email ottawairishdance.shoes@gmail.com to arrange a private fitting. Students are encouraged to purchase either a beginner school costume, or when qualified rent the advanced school costume at an annual fee.
